Gilmour Academy Varsity A hockey stays unbeaten, tops national rankings

GATES MILLS, Ohio — Gilmour Academy's Varsity A hockey team continued its perfect start to the season, improving to 13-0 after winning the 2025 Cornfield Classic with a 6-3 victory over the Buffalo Grove/Hersey/Wheeling Hockey Club.

The Lancers' unbeaten run has vaulted them to the top of the national rankings. According to MaxPreps, Gilmour is ranked No. 1 among high school hockey teams in both the nation and the state of Ohio.

Offensively, Zack Cox '26 has set the pace, leading the team with 23 points on 13 goals and 10 assists. Ben Slifko '26 and Brody Walnsch '26 are tied for second on the team with 17 points apiece as Gilmour has consistently generated scoring from multiple lines.

The Lancers have also been strong in net. Donato Iacurci '26 has posted seven wins with a 95% save percentage, while Luke Dingwell '27 has added six wins and a 93% save percentage, giving Gilmour a reliable tandem between the pipes.

Gilmour will look to extend its unbeaten streak Saturday when it travels to Nashville, Tennessee, to face University School of Nashville. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Dec. 20.
