The varsity volleyball team continued its undefeated status this past week with wins against Willoughby South and North Coast League (NCL) opponent Archbishop Hoban to improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Throughout the week, many different players showcased their talents. Most notably, Ava Nestor '21 (pictured on the right), Brinn MacLellan '21 (pictured on the left) and Kathryn Randorf  '22 each had an outstanding match against Hoban in the first home game of the season in front of a packed Lancer crowd. Together, they helped the team earn a total of 45 points in the victory.
This weekend, the varsity team hosts the Lancer Invitational on September 7, which features a total of eight talented teams from the area, including Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Brunswick, Huron, Lake Catholic, Norwalk, Riverside and Waynedale. Each team will play three games, with the first beginning at 1 p.m. Four courts will be run simultaneously, using the Athletic Center's Lancer Gymnasium, in addition to the three courts in the Field House. The second round of games will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m., with the final round of games, including the championship match, at approximately 4 p.m. Admission is free for Gilmour students who present their student IDs at the gate, as well as those members of Lancer Nation who present their 2019-20 GA Family Athletic Pass. Parking will be limited, so fans are encouraged to carpool that day.
In other volleyball news, the junior varsity team put up a strong fight in a recent match on the road at Willoughby South before falling to Hoban. Bella Lasecki '22 gave maximum effort as a defensive specialist diving all over the court. At the freshman level, the Lancers earned their first win of the season in their home opener against Hoban. It was a true team effort.
