Boys Prep Hockey: Lancers Defeat Top-Ranked Team

The Gilmour Academy boys prep hockey team went 2-0 on the weekend against Detroit Victory Honda 18-U AAA, who ranks 12th in the nation. The Lancers defeated Victory Honda 3-2 on Friday. The team had a balanced attack Friday evening, as Hunter Fetterolf '22, Nathan Dowling '22 and Noah Gaudette '21 each scored a goal during match play. Defensively, the prep team was led by goaltender Hadyn Gould '22, who recorded 39 saves.

Victory Honda proved to be no match for the Lancers the following morning either, as Gilmour defeated the nationally ranked team 8-1. Charlie Tuggey '21 had a banner performance on Saturday, scoring three goals and earning the team's Golden Dome Player of the Game Award.  Dowling also scored three goals, while Tanyon Bajzer '21 and Fetterolf each contributed a goal during the contest. Goaltender Nicholas Larrabee '21 had 29 saves against Victory Honda.

Head coach Mike Chiellino was incredibly proud of his team's performance.

"The boys played their best hockey of the season last weekend against Victory Honda 18-U AAA, one of the top teams in the country. We had a great week of practice leading up to the games, which certainly helped us with our preparation going onto a big weekend. The team received quality goaltending and started to click offensively with all four lines and all three defensive pairs contributing to the team's success," said Chiellino.

The boys prep team will host Detroit Victory Honda 18-U AA again this weekend, in what will surely be exciting rematches. The contests will take place on Friday, November 20 at 4:40 p.m. and Saturday, November 21 at 11:40 a.m.
