The Gilmour Academy Varsity A boys hockey team kicked off their regular season with impressive performances that propelled them to a 2-1-1 record to start their 2020-2021 campaign.  

The Lancers traveled to the Toledo area prior to Thanksgiving Break to compete against Findlay High School and Bowling Green High School. The Varsity A team defeated both opponents markedly, as the Lancers beat the Findlay Trojans 4-1 on Friday, November 20, and downed the Bowling Green Bobcats 5-1 on Saturday, November 21. The team's strong offensive performances over the weekend were led by Colin Bauman '21, Kessel Richards '21, Geno Oprisiu '21 and Frankie Valenti '21, who each scored in both games against Findlay and Bowling Green.  

Last weekend, Gilmour battled hometown rival Saint Ignatius High School in two thrilling contests. The Lancers first traveled to the Wildcats' home arena on Saturday, November 27, where they tied 2-2 in overtime. Gilmour goalie Ian Anderson '22 had an incredible defensive outing, while Valenti and Richards provided the Lancers with two key goals in the contest. The Varsity A team then hosted Saint Ignatius at Floyd E. Stefanksi Ice Arena on Sunday, November 28.  Another match-up against top teams in the area, the game was equally as thrilling as Saturday's contest. Ultimately, the Lancers came up short against the Wildcats on Sunday, losing 2-1.  

The Lancers are set to host Saint Ignatius and Newark High School this weekend. The team will compete against Saint Ignatius on Friday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m., and will face off against Newark on Saturday, December 5 at 1:20 p.m. Fans of the Lancers can catch both games on livestream at gilmour.org/live.
